Nationwide Thailand COVID-19 Emergency Decree Extended Until End Feb

The past week or two has been a difficult time with Thailand COVID-19 cases on the rise. A Nationwide emergency decree was initially in place until 15 January 2021 but has now been extended for another 45 days until the end of February.

A Thai cabinet approved the decree extension on 5 January, which was a proposal from the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA). The news was welcomed by worriers but scorned by those who believe in personal freedoms. We will not judge your opinion either way.

The Pattaya News website reported the news yesterday evening. And the news will give the police and government the powers to do pretty much what they want. In other words, business as usual for the powers that be.

The news of the extension was given by the government spokesman, Anucha Burapachaisri, at a press conference on Tuesday. The decision is based on the recent Thailand COVID-19 cases from the Samut Sakhon market, and other places in the Rayong District. Close down the country guys, some people have the flu. I think what people are suffering from is something else completely and can be fixed by turning off the TV.

Thailand COVID-19 Chon Buri Lockdown Confusion

There were many mixed signals sent out to businesses in the Chon Buri area over the past few days. The left-hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. On 30 December, reports were circulating that restaurants in the Chon Buri province were not allowed to open for eat-in customers. But by 1 January, restaurants were told that eat-in customers are allowed with social distancing in place. However, now they can’t have eat-in customers? So can they or can’t they? And alcohol is now banned in restaurants too!!!!!

The Future of Living in Thailand

What does this mean for the future of living in Thailand? More checkpoints and roadblocks of course! Although we fully understand that the Thailand COVID-19 situation has changed in the past few weeks, are you confident that politicians know what they are doing? You can answer that one.

From today onwards, we will see more travel restrictions and checkpoints.  What does this mean for businesses and the economy? It seems like no one is bothered about the livelihoods of people with families. It’s easy to lockdown countries that have social systems that give furloughed payouts to families and people who cannot work due to the pandemic. But will that happen here? You know the answer. Stay safe folks, especially when driving on the roads, which is the real killer in this country.
