Events in Thailand Re-Open?

Are Thailand Events and Activities to Reopen on 15 June?

It’s been 3 months of turmoil and discomfort for everyone related to the Thailand events sector and nightlife scene across the Land of Smiles. We are only just beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel as the staggered re-opening of Thailand businesses are now starting to begin. The breaking news is that some Thailand events will be given the all-clear from June 15 onwards although we will have to wait for an official announcement in the next day or two confirming it. Is Thailand poised to start getting back to normal? We sincerely hope so.

Events in Thailand and Other Sectors Give the All Clear?

The Bangkok Post reported earlier this week that the government is likely to lift bans across numerous sectors in the next few days. The word is that restaurants will be allowed to serve alcohol, but will still have to adhere to social distancing rules at the moment. It is also believed that concerts and closed-venue sports will also resume amidst the Thai government’s fourth phase of openings.

The openings will be considered this week is the news coming from the spokesperson from the Centre of Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), Taweesilp Visanuyothin. It is believed that the draft proposal will also include allowing international and cram schools to reopen. Conferences and seminars will also supposedly be allowed to resume in this latest phase.

However, even amidst the potential openings, it is being suggested that pubs, bars and karaoke bars will remain closed until further notice. And although this is not great news for the nightlife and events sector in some regards, we must be patient and understanding during these trying time.

What does this mean for Thailand Events?

If you are a bar or nightclub who wants to get your events up and moving forward, it’s not great news, and you might have to wait another few weeks. This means that all music events that are held in nightclubs and pubs will not be happening in the near future. But concerts in other venues could be possible. Conference halls and convention and exhibition centres will be allowed to open their doors if they stick to social distancing rules that ensure that each visitor has one meter of space from another person. Calculators are currently clicking to figure out how many visitors expos and conferences will allow entering.

If guests can be seated one meter apart, certain events will be allowed to take place. This will cover concerts, although concert-goers are being encouraged not to sing out loud because they may spray other attendees with saliva droplets! However, if you are a business who is planning a concert, as long as you abide by the rules, there will be no reason why you can’t get back to business in the next few days. You might have to be smart in your approach to organizing an event, but something is better than nothing. There really is light at the end of the tunnel for Thailand and its events scene.
