10 Things that Make a Thailand Holiday Amazing

There are so many things that make a Thailand holiday so amazing. Although I have been living in Thailand for over a decade, I sometimes wonder why myself and millions of tourists are attracted to visiting Thailand each year. I have been here so long that it is almost impossible to view the Kingdom as a tourist destination when it is simply my home.

However, when I was a few wrinkles younger and few million baht richer, I used to visit Thailand on holiday. And after much pondering and reflection, I have come up with 10 things that make a Thailand holiday so amazing and appealing.

Thailand has some of the most stunning beaches in the world

#1 – Thailand’s Sunshine and Warm Climate

Let’s be brutally honest here, as much as we love all the things about Thailand, if the Kingdom was located in the middle of Siberia, we would never go there on holiday. The all-year-round high temperatures that douse Thailand in the beautiful sun rays are always a massive factor for holidaying here. The temperatures very rarely go under 30 degrees. The only place in Thailand that is not blistering hot all year round is in Chiang Mai in the North of the nation. The best time of the year to visit Thailand with the least rainfall and humidity is between November and April. Between May and October, you might stumble into a bit of rain, but you will most definitely experience the humidity of what is now called ‘Green Season’.

#2 – Beautiful Beaches in Thailand

This one thing that goes hand-in-hand with having copious amounts of sunshine is the beautiful beaches in Thailand. Some tourists come and stay in regions such as Krabi, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Koh Samui just to bask on Thai beaches all day long to bronze their torsos. If you want any recommendations for beaches in Thailand, we would recommend Railay Beach in Krabi, which really does have to be seen to be believed. If you are in Phuket, we would recommend Nai Harn Beach, and if you are in Samui, not many beaches can compete with Maenam. Although Pattaya is not generally known for its beaches, Bangsaray Beach and the Thai Navy Beach at Sai Kaew are great choices.

#3 – The Thai Island Holiday Experience

There is nothing that can match that ultra-special Thai island holiday experience. Whether you go the more commercial route of vising the dreamy shores of Phuket or Koh Samui, or opt for other interesting and less-traveled islands such as Koh Lanta, Koh Chang or Koh Samed, the choice is amazing and the atmosphere is breathtaking. If you find yourself in Phuket or other Southern regions such as Phang Nga and Krabi, make sure you get out to the James Bond Island and Phi Phi with its surrounding isles that were the location of the Leonardo di Caprio movie, The Beach.

#4 – Thailand Holiday Nightlife

If you have never heard about Thailand’s infamous nightlife escapades, you have probably been living under a rock somewhere in Patagonia. Such a subject needs an entire article, or if written in a book needs an entire Hectare of Amazonian rainforest. Whether you are in any of Thailand’s major holiday destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya or Koh Samui, there is a fantastic selection of go-go bars, beer bars, nightclubs, theater shows and live music venues. Some of the most popular Thailand nightlife areas are Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza and Khao San Road in Bangkok, Bangla Road in Phuket, Walking Street, Soi 6 and Soi Buakhao in Pattaya and the Fisherman’s Village in Koh Samui.

#5 – World-Class Diving Locations

Thailand literally has some of the best scuba diving sites in the world. Out in the waters surrounding Phi Phi Islands and Phang Nga, you will find awe-inspiring dive spots. Exploring the Andaman Ocean in Phuket, you will find the Similan Islands, which are known as one of the best dive locations in the world. In and around the Gulf of Thailand near Pattaya there are also some quality wrecks and reefs. Koh Lipe, Koh Lak, and Surin Island are just a few more islands that make Thailand a scuba diving paradise.

#6 – Value For Money

Although since the world economic crash, the Thai baht has been very strong against Western currencies, Thailand is still a place of undoubted value for money. You can get yourself a hotel room with air-con in Thailand for as little as 500 THB per night. Extremely nice rooms in 5-star resorts can cost as little as 2,000 THB. Some of the best value in terms of accommodation is renting out a villa. Some holiday villa rentals cost as little as 5,000 THB per night and have 4-beds that can sleep 8 people or 4 couples. Put this together with such cheap food, cheap shopping and much more, and Thailand is still one of the most affordable places in the world.

#7 – Amazing Thai Cuisine

The best part about a Thailand holiday is that you get to sample some of the finest and most unique dishes on the planet with the world-famous Thai cuisine. From famous and popular seafood dishes such as Tom Yam Goong (spicy shrimp soup) and all manner of fishes such as Grouper and Snapper to a wide variety of noodle and rice dishes, Thai food is stunning. Or maybe you want to push the boat out to try a Thai delicacy such as fried cockroaches, grubs, lava, fire ants, pigs blood, and many more!

#8 – Thailand Hospitality

When it comes to hospitality, charm, and smiling faces, nobody does it quite like Thailand. The country is known as ‘The Land of Smiles’, and it really is infectious when you are enjoying a Thailand holiday. Whether you are turning up at a top-notch eatery, to a hotel, or for a round of golf, there always seems to be a hoard of Thai females waiting to greet you like a long-lost explorer, hands clasped together while saying ‘Sawadee Ka’ in unison. It gets me every time!

#9 – Playing Golf in Thailand

Laem Chabang Country Club is one of the best Pattaya golf courses

Some people come to Thailand just to enjoy a golf holiday. Playing golf in Thailand is pretty amazing. The nation has some stunning courses such as the courses at Siam Country Club in Pattaya, Red Mountain GC, and Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket, Amata Springs in the Bangkok Countryside, and Black Mountain in Hua Hin. The courses are always in immaculate condition and you will get a Thai caddy, which means you won’t have to carry your own clubs or clean your own balls, which always gives me a bad back.

#10 – Thailand is a Final Frontier

Thailand can be a bit wild, in the nicest possible way, and that’s why we like it. If you have never bribed a police officer before, you might get the chance on a Thailand holiday. Although Thailand is a much safer place than where I come from in the UK, there is a certain lawless charm about the place that is so additive while being surprisingly unthreatening at the same time. Rules are enforced in Thailand, but it depends what day it is. This is an aspect of Thai culture that is always fascinating.
