Songkran is the Thai New Year's celebration which takes place around April. You probably know Songkran as the water festival. Underneath the festival is for Thai people to return and celebrate at home with food and receive blessings from the parents.  

Songkran Festival or Thai New Year is a nationwide festival. During this time offices and most shops get closed and a massive movement of Thai people goes homewards to celebrate Songkran with their family. Songkran in Thailand will be from 13-15 April 2018. Expect the public transportation, hotels and guesthouses full so booking during this period is an absolute must. 

The Yi Ping Festival is a traditional Thai festival where Thai people visit the monks at the temple for meditation and offer lanterns to the monks. You probably know the most famous traditions when Thai people release the lanterns into the sky.

Songkran or Thai New Year is rich in tradition. The festival has grown to become a tourist attraction where you get soaked from all the water throwing. In essence and for the Thai people, Songkran festival has an exact origin where it starts with merit making and a visit to the temple in the early morning followed with some water pouring on Buddha statues and seniors or washing the feet of elderly bring you forgiveness, blessings and fortune. Drinking alcohol, partying and getting drunk is in no way the true meaning of Songkran.

Yi Peng Festival Chiang Mai in 2022 takes place on 8 and 9 November 2022. 

Songkran 2022 events are allowed. Alcoholic consumption is this year prohibited during Songkran in Thailand. 

S2O Festival is a massive electronic dance music festival. The festival takes place during Songkran and welcomes primary DJ's to perform at the three-day festival. S2O brings people, like yourself, together for the wettest water-soaking party in Asia and around the world with thousands of litres water being spilt.  

S2O Festival takes place in Bangkok during Songkran. S2O Festival has moved to Live Park on Rama 9 Road in Bangkok . Rama 9 is easy to access with the bus as well as the airport link stops nearby. There are free shuttle buses between 15:00 -24:00 on these days picking you up from BTS Ekamai or Airport Link Ramkhamhaeng and return to Airport Link Ramkhamhaeng, Liberty Thong Lor and Golden Place Ekamai Ramindra.

Pool parties have seen enormous growth over the last few years. Most hotels have copied the concept to cash in on this widespread phenomenon. There are only thee parties which have earned reputation and taken off  in the Thai pool party market, which are:

Easter is a Christian Holiday. Christians celebrate Easter in April. Thailand is in the majority a Buddhist Country. Second religion is Muslim, and a small minority is Christian. More people find Christianity interesting to see answers, especially when it comes to after-death. Easter is officially not a holiday. You might find some celebration in the local church and international hotels. 

Thai people are very friendly and courteous, but if you shout at them in the middle of the street in front of others or make them embarrassed in front of other people, you might end up in a fight. If you get in a heated discussion for any reason, stop what you are doing, smile, and everything should be okay. Do not lose your temper in public when dealing with locals.

Major outlets and shops will all accept credit cards, just like any Western nation. However, many restaurants on the low end of the scale do not accept cards, and will only accept cash payment.

Taxi's in Bangkok are usually not expensive. The departure rate is 35 Baht which is a little more than one US dollar. You can comfortably travel around for 60 - 100 Baht when there is no traffic. From Bangkok centre - Suvarnabhumi airport usually costs around 300-350 baht.  The risk lies in the integrity of the taxi driver. There are some who are proud of their city and would love to show it to you. There is where the meter rises. 

It is convenient to travel around Bangkok despite the heat. The common way to move around quickly is with the BTS (Sky Train) which will bring you to the most common areas around Bangkok. When you plan to move further, there are buses, minivan and taxies. Be aware of heavy traffic usually from 7-10 AM and 3PM-8PM.

You can easily get from Bangkok centre to Bitec. The fastest way is with the BTS Skytrain which will take up to 30 minutes depending where you are. Step out at Bangna Station and from there walk over the bridge into BITEC. 

I would say that you can find trouble anywhere if you are that kind of person or you are looking for trouble! It seems that every time something happens to a Westerner in Thailand, the story always makes the international news, which gives people the wrong impression on the safety of a Thailand holiday. I have lived here for over a decade and have never encountered a problem walking the streets at night. Where I come from in England is much more dangerous than Thailand, and even my home town isn’t that dangerous, especially when compared to the back alleyways of any American city. The unequivocal answer is YES, IT IS SAFE!

There are non-aircon and airconditioned buses in Bangkok. Prices depend on distance and comfort. In average a non-aircon bus costs 6-9 baht while an airconditioned bus costs 12 baht and more.  

You thought all these questions would be interesting, didn’t you? WRONG. This one is a very practical Q&A that could save your power adapters blowing up or some other unfortunate electrical incident. The electric voltage in Thailand is 220 volts, 50 cycles per second. In Thailand, you mainly use a two-prong plug, so if you want to bring along your own electrical items such as a laptop computer or some kind of torturing device, make sure you bring a converter along!

A Tuk Tuk is a comfortable way of transport throughout Thailand. Each city has its type of tuk-tuk. You will find that in major tourist destinations such as Pattaya, Bangkok, Samui, Chiang Mai, Koh Lanta, and more, you will be able to get by if you speak English. The Thai language is not needed in these areas, which is lucky because it is a difficult language to even master the basics. If you are travelling through local Thai towns and cities, you might need to take along a translation book, just in case.

If you do not have an international driving license, we would say NO, do not rent a bike. You can rent one with your passport alone, but if you get caught by the numerous police checkpoints in Thailand without a license, it can get you a fine or even in more hot water depending on how the police feel that day. With taxi prices and car rental prices so cheap, keep away from the motorbikes if possible.

Visitors to Thailand do not have to undergo pre-flight testing from 1 April 2022. Testing on arrival remains. 

If you are staying in a hotel, we would suggest that you use the tour desk kiosk in the lobby for your tours because they can easily organize them for you with a minimum of fuss. If you are staying in a Thailand holiday villa, you can ask the staff for tour guide recommendations. There is a cacophony of tour desks in every major Thailand holiday destination that is, for the most part, truthful and honest.

Travellers to Thailand do no longer need a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test before their departure.

We would suggest renting out a taxi driver for 1,000 to 2,000 THB per day for your Thailand holiday or even rent a car of your own for a similar price, but just make sure you have an international driving license. Big Bikes local licenses are currently under review.

Yes, unfortunately, there are some poisonous/dangerous animals and insects, but I wouldn’t stay awake at night mulling over the issue. The Kingdom is home to some dangerous jellyfish, snakes, scorpions, centipedes and so on, but unless you are staying in a jungle environment or are swimming where you shouldn’t, everything will be okay. You might encounter a few snakes and black widows on Walking Street Pattaya or Pattaya Beach Road, but they will likely be of the human variety.

You can see the SHA+ status as an upgraded version of the SHA Standard. More than 70% of hotel staff must be fully vaccinated. Each staff must be trained with covid-19 emergency procedures.
