HBO Max Confirm “Sex and the City” Remake for 2021

A ‘Sex and the City’ remake has been announced by HBO Max for 2021. Anyone around in the late-1990s and early-2000s will tell you that the show was one of the largest and most-watched on American TV. Especially in female demographics.

A new ‘revival’ of the show is being planned. And for the most part, will include all your favorites. Although a couple of the former cast members will not be involved for various reasons.

Sex and the City Remake in the Works

Movie and entertainment news website, Variety, is reporting that a Sex and the City remake is going to happen this year. And it will be on HBO Max. A new chapter is being written and will be titled “And Just Like That.” Former cast favorites will be appearing in the show with confirmation already from Sarah Jessica Parker, Kirsten Davis, and Cynthia Nixon. One notable absence from the remake will be Kim Cattrall who played Samantha Jones in the original series from 1998 to 2004. And although that’s a bit of a bummer, it is what it is!

It’s also being reported that Nixon, Parker, and Davis, along with Michael Patrick King, will also have executive producer roles. If you are a former fan of the show, or are younger and want to know what the fuss is about, the Sex and the City remake is exciting news.

Sex and the City Remake Storyline?

So, now the news of the revival is out there, what’s it going to be about? What’s the plot? How is this show going to live up to its former past glory? By giving us a modern-day take on what the girls are currently up to, of course!

First things first. The announcement by HBO Max said that the new series will have 10x 30-minute episodes. The filming will start in spring, and will hopefully be launched on the platform by the end of the year.

The story will cover the relationship between the three main aforementioned actresses, now in their 50s. The series will follow the girls still trying to figure out love and friendship many years after their first run. It will be great to get back up to speed with the characters that meant so much to female TV watchers 20-years ago.

HBO Max Launch in 2021

It’s an exciting time for everyone at HBO Max and long-time fans of the show. Even some of HBO’s main executives and tenants can’t wait for the Sex and the City remake.

Head of original content at HBO Max, Sarah Aubrey, stated that “I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them.” And that is pretty much the sentiment of everyone who has been waiting to find out about these characters over the past decade or more

Were you a fan of the show back in the 1990s and 2000s? If so, the revival of the show will be essential viewing.
