Thailand Chinese New Year is Now Holiday to Encourage Domestic Tourism

It’s being reported that the Thailand Chinese New Year festivities in February 2021 is once again going to be a National Holiday, just like last year. The Thai government has approved this to encourage domestic tourism to reboot the economy post-COVID-19.

But the real issue is that the news is very confusing and sending out mixed signals. As a Thailand event company, we are happy that the government is making Thailand Chinese New Year a holiday, but so close after a COVID-related lockdown? Does any of it make sense?

Thailand Chinese New Year Festivities

The Thailand Chinese New Year holiday will take place on 12 February 2021. And the news is that the Thai government has made the day a national holiday to promote tourism. The story is being reported by blogger Richard Barrow via his Twitter account:

There you have it from the horse’s mouth. Richard Barrow is one of the most reliable Thailand commenters for ex-pats living in the Kingdom. And for the most part, he is right on the money.

No doubt that many Bangkok residents will be happy to get back to something resembling normal, but is this a good idea so close after a lockdown. For those who believe that COVID-19 has been used politically across the planet, the news is great. But for those who enjoy a good dose of fear-based propaganda, they will be worrying themselves into an early grave. This Thailand Chinese New Year holiday idea is fine with us.

Whether you are from the ‘show must go on’ group or ‘we need to lock ourselves up forever to stop this glorified cold’ brigade, the news might be confusing. Do the authorities want us to stay at home, or go out and travel around Thailand? Nobody is really sure at this moment. Especially those making the decisions. And this is a knock at all countries, not just Thailand. This issue is much wider than a single country.

Should We Stay or Should We Go?

Do we get on with it, or do we lock ourselves away and wait for a ‘vaccine’ from multinational pharmaceutical companies whose sole purpose in the spectrum of life is to make profits? And we already know that the flu vaccination didn’t eradicate the flu. It’s a tough decision. And one that people should be allowed to make personally without the social commentary and berating of others.

So, it really is up to you whether you embrace this Thailand Chinese New Year holiday as a good or bad thing. Only time will tell if the virus or economic collapse will affect more people eventually.
