Best Thailand Shopping Events that Will Cost You.

You only have to stroll past the Mega Malls of downtown Siam, check out the enormous retail expos at IMPACT Arena, or browse through one of Chiang Mai’s many different night markets to realize that Bangkok, Thailand shopping is incredibly popular. Some might even say it’s a national sport…

As a result, tourists, expats and locals can enjoy a calendar full of Bangkok shopping events. The main retail action happens in Bangkok, as well as major cities like Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya and more.

Below, find our quick overview of all the shopping, retail, markets and expo events to look forward to over the next 12 months.

Bangkok Shopping events and Around Thailand

Held over two entire months (from 15 Jun-15 Aug), the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale is the biggest date in the calendar for Thailand’s hundreds of shopping malls. This government organized nationwide sale sees participating malls roll out special promotions and huge savings of up to 80% on clothes and household items.

Another useful date to look out for (if you fancy some savings) is Chinese New Year in February. This week-long celebration sees many of Bangkok’s and Phuket’s Chinese shops and restaurants offer special discounts for everybody to enjoy. Chinatown is a lust for addicted shoppers!

Not visiting Thailand during that time? Then no problem. Thailand’s malls are famous for holding sales all year round; the best places to shop for a bargain in Bangkok are CentralWorld, Terminal 21, EmQuartier, Paragon, and Siam Square. Both Central and the Mall Group collectively own hundreds of malls in every major city such as Khon Kaen, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hua Hin, Pattaya and in the southern islands.

Bangkok Shopping & Expos in Thailand

Thailand is home to two of the largest exhibition and conference arenas in the whole of Southeast Asia: IMPACT Arena in Nonthaburi and BITEC at Bangna. Both hold frequent trade events and retail expos, including motor shows, parenting events, electronic and gadget exhibitions and home retail sales.

The ‘Thailand Best Shopping Fair’ is a huge nine-day event, normally held at the end of the year (during December) at the BITEC Arena in Bangna. Expect promotions on furniture, home decor, fashion, textiles, wellness, electronics and fitness gear.

Bangkok Shopping Markets in Thailand

While markets have been around in here before the country was even named Thailand, the concept of ‘pop-up’ markets is a relatively new thing. These events tend to attract a young and trendy crowd, who come for the retro fashion, cool homeware and chilled vibes. Some names to look out for around Bangkok include Artbox (various locations), The Knack Market (Khlong San) and the monthly Farmer’s Market (various locations). These also offer live music, food trucks and beer gardens – so if shopping is not your thing, they are still worth a visit. Up north, Chiang Mai also tends to attract shoppers who prefer the market over the mall, with weekly events held on Walking Street within the old city center.
