Martin Garrix Best DJ in The World 2022

Several months after Dutch Verstappen became Formula 1 world champion, it is now DJ Martin Garrix who received the crown of best DJ in the DJ Mag’s Top 100 World’s Best DJs. He celebrated it the first DJ Set from The Empire State Building in New York.

Just twenty-six years of age, the Dutch DJ received the crown in 2016 and the subsequent two years multiple times. We only heard from him in his mid-teens with a proto-EDM tune titled “Animals”. David Guetta was his best friend and mentor who topped the poll for the last two years, and now it is Garrix again.

World DJ Martin Garrix Works with Leading Artists

David’s fame grew through intensive collaborations with the heaviest artists walking this planet, including Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Usher and U2.

His current fourth achievement let him rise above Guetta and Tiesto’s fame as the other mentor. Armin van Buuren, another playing Dutchman, is one to pass for his fame.

“That’s very surreal, for me, to be on the list in general — I’m on the list with all the people I look up to,” Garrix said. “I started making music because of Tiësto, and I’m a huge David [Guetta] fan. I’m grateful for the support and being included on the list; it’s crazy.”

Garrix played as the World’s Number 1 DJ, a live stream recorded on top of Manhattan’s world-famous Art Deco building, the Empire State Building, which is 102 stories in height.

As a response to the live stream, DJ Martin Garrix says, “It was surreal”, he said of the set. “It’s one of the most iconic buildings in the world, so being on top playing my music was very special. Music has brought me to many crazy places, but this was high up there. “The view was incredible. It was bizarre. There were some funny tweets we saw because we didn’t announce anything, and people were wondering why at 3 AM, there was this crazy light show going on. We were initially going to start recording at midnight but could only start after the visitors left for the day, so it took a little longer. I think we started recording at 2.30 AM. It was fine. I had so much adrenaline from being there. It was exceptional.”

Martin Garrix is the First DJ Taking Over The Empire State Building
