Thousands of Medics Fight against Coronavirus

Military medical personnel from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, Army and Navy, along with batches of medical supplies, were dispatched to the epidemic-hit city by the Airborne Forces and railway soon after the outbreak of pneumonia coronavirus.

Most of the members of the team have previous experience in the prevention, control and treatment of infectious diseases. Some of them participated in the fight against SARS and others helped Africa fight the Ebola outbreak.

Over the past few days, the military doctors and nurses have been put to the test, racing against time to carry out medical rescue services against the coronavirus.

Fighting for Better Results

“We’ve always persisted in achieving an early diagnosis, early treatment of the coronavirus so patients can recover and leave from the hospital at the earliest date. We want to provide the most accurate scientific basis to patients’ treatment and curing process. At the same time, we want to speed up the turnover rate for hospital beds so we can accommodate as many patients as possible,” said Zhou Lei, medical staff from the Air Force Medical University’s team.

While the doctors and nurses are scrambling for time to save more lives, researchers from China’s military research institutions have also stepped up scientific research to contribute to the fight against the epidemic.

The Academy of Military Medical Sciences works around the clock to develop a vaccine for the epidemic.

Coronavirus Fighting the Devil

“We are doing our utmost to race against time and fight with this coronavirus ‘devil’. We are now more prepared than ever in terms of the reserve of talents, research conditions and technologies for treating diseases, so I believe we can win this battle in the prevention and control of the disease,” said Chen Wei, a scientist from the academy.

The Chinese army also delivered emergency relief supplies and medical equipment to the city on Thursday. Also, the army has deployed more military medical teams on standby, ready to offer their help at any time.

Thailand Fight against Coronavirus

Air Asia has offered to return Thai citizens home from Wuhan. Thai Airways has taken precautions and disinfects the interiors of all the return aircraft on Tuesday (January 28) to ensure passenger safety against the new coronavirus.

Thailand announced plans on Tuesday to screen all arrivals from China for symptoms of a deadly virus and confirmed six more infections among such visitors, taking the southeast Asian nation’s tally to 19, health officials said.

The virus has caused alarm because it is still too early to know how dangerous it is and how easily it spreads between people. Also because it is new, humans have not been able to build immunity to it.
