Onyx Club sits at the top end of Bangkok’s famous party strip – Royal City Avenue (RCA). In recent years, this EDM-only venue has emerged as probably the most popular club in the city, drawing in thousands of young locals, a few expats and even fewer tourists. A couple of years ago, the club took over the now defunct ‘Slim and Fix’, essentially doubling its size. A new room opened (named ‘Onyx Main stage’) and the old smaller space still remains at the back.
As for music, if you don’t like pumping electronic dance music, you might want to give this one a miss. Seven nights a week, DJs play house, electro, Big Room, progressive and everything in between. The club is also known to welcome international DJs on a regular basis, for example, MakJ, Steve Aoki and Sick Individuals have all played to a packed house in recent months. In terms of entrance, it’s normally 400 baht on the door which will get you one or two beers included. However, it is worth noting that Onyx club gets very, very busy on the weekends, so it is a good idea to book a table in advance or come early. To secure a table, you will need to be in a group and it’s normal to order a bottle and mixer set (around 3,000 baht) to share with your friends.
To reach Onyx club, just tell your taxi driver to head towards ‘RCA’ – they will all know this famous road. The club is located at the very top of the street. For those coming by public transport, the nearest station is Rama 9 MRT, around 5-10 minutes walk away from the strip of nightclubs.
