A load of International stand up comedian headliners are making their way to Thailand in 2019. Stand up comedy has subtly been on the rise in Thailand for a while now, with loads of live nights and dedicated events popping up all over the country. From amateur open mic to international comic headliners, 2019 looks set to be rich in comedic talent. Here are our top picks for all of the hilarious goodness happening in Thailand in 2019.
1) Stand Up Comedian: Jim Jefferies – Live in Bangkok
The Comedy Central host brings his ‘Night Talker Tour’ to Bangkok following a strong following built from his live shows available on Netflix. The Aussie comic is known and admired for his strong opinions and humorous observations of modern day life.
2) Stand Up Comedy Club Bangkok – Live Venue
Located above the Royal Oak Pub, the Comedy Club Bangkok is a prime spot for up and coming stand up comedian amateur talent. Alongside open-mic nights supporting homegrown talent and budding local comedians, the venue also stages world-class comedians year on year. Past performers include Eddie Izzard, Martin Mor, Anto Chan and Jimmy Carr. The club publishes monthly events on their website, and if you fancy your chances at comedy yourself, they offer many opportunities for you to get involved. The 2019 calendar is yet to be published, but the CCB always manage to pull out a world-class lineup and original schedule of events.
3) Stand Up Comedian: Tom Green – Live in Phuket and Bangkok – April 2019
Retro MTV comedy icon Tom Green heads to Asia for the first time as part of Magners International Comedy Festival. Following dates in Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong, the comic found success through his own MTV shows and created the epic cult favourite movie ‘Freddie Got Fingered’. The American stand-up is now bringing his critically acclaimed show to Thailand which has been commended on its global accessibility and diverse subjects of humour.
4) Stand Up Comedy Club: Stagetime – Live Venue
Stagetime Comedy Club Bangkok is another live comedy venue in Bangkok. This club takes a more family-friendly approach, with a vast and diverse gig listing that is continuously being updated. From traditional stand-up, open mic and crazy magic show, Stagetime offers an entertaining night, any night of the week!
5) Stand Up Comedian: Jim Gaffigan – Live in Bangkok – 22 March
The Grammy-nominated comic makes his Thai debut in March as he brings his Quality Time tour to Bangkok. The American comic is also a producer, actor and writer, celebrating a two-time New York Times best-seller status and a hugely successful response to his Netflix Specials. Jim Gaffigan‘s set tends to be based on observational comedy, fatherhood and basically being very lazy.
6) Stand Up Comedy at Khoa San Comedy Club – Live Venue
A stronger choice for the younger crowd, Khoa San Comedy Club hosts a nightly show, 7 days, at 9 pm. No prizes for guessing the location of the club or the target audience, but does give a general idea of comic style and shows to be expected…and that leaving the kids at home might be advisable.
