5 Fun Facts About Pattaya City

The words ‘fun’ and ‘Pattaya City’ are routinely linked together, and rightly so. The city really is a hive of fun, excitement, and uniqueness. Although some of our news and media outlets only like to focus on the negative aspects of the city, which you will find in every city across the globe. Here are 5 fun facts about Pattaya City.

#1 – Over 800 beer bars in Pattaya City

Pattaya City Nightlife Scene has hundreds of bars

There are over 800 bars in Pattaya City

Apparently, the city is home to over 800 beer bars, at least pre-COVID-19, which is a concentration of fun-filled establishments that you won’t find anywhere else. If you visited just 4 of these bars every night and had two beers in each bar, it would take you 200 days just to get around them all, while consuming 1600 beers in the process. Maybe I am onto a book idea – Around Pattaya in 1600 beers! This is why Pattaya City is ranked as one of the best holiday destinations for those who are looking for the best nights out.

#2 – Diverse Tourism Clientele

Did you know that modern Pattaya is no longer a destination for only single European males? Things have changed in Pattaya. And in this day and age, you will find more nationalities visiting Pattaya than ever before. Over the past 5 years, we have seen more tourists from Russia, India, Korea, and China, and with the city’s much-improved family atmosphere, Pattaya is more diverse than ever before.

There are now so many family-style attractions in Pattaya such as the Cartoon Network Water Park, Underwater World Pattaya, and many more. Pattaya City is not just about nightlife anymore. The city is actually home to more family attractions than any other Thailand tourism destination.

#3 – Over 5 million tourists every year

Pattaya attracts more than 5 million tourists in a normal year

Although we don’t receive the tourist arrival numbers from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) on a regular basis, we do know that Pattaya receives approximately 5 million visitors or more every year. Did you know that is more than the entire tourism influx of Egypt each year? Amazing, right? We might not have the Pyramid of Giza, but we can hold our own with any history from an ancient culture. The figures are obviously pre-COVID-19. As not many tourist destinations in the world will reach in the region of 5 million visitors in 2020.

#4 – Do you know why East Pattaya is called the ‘Darkside’?

East Pattaya is an area that is located on the opposite side of Sukhumvit Road. It’s where many of the city’s ex-pats, especially families, choose to reside. East Pattaya is also known as the ‘Darkside’, which makes it sound seedy and a hotbed for satanic rituals. In essence, that couldn’t be further from the truth. It is called the Darkside because in the not-too-distant-past, East Pattaya didn’t really have any street lights. So as soon as the sunset, darkness blanketed the entire area. Obviously, in this day and age, East Pattaya has lots of street lights but the moniker still remains.

5 – Pattaya City is the Number 1 Golf Destination in SE-Asia Pacific

With almost 25 golf courses within a 45-minute drive of downtown Pattaya City, the region is a real hotbed for golf holidays and is the epicenter for golf vacations in SE-Asia. From Championship courses such as Siam Country Club and Laem Chabang CC to excellent value for money courses such as Rayong Green Valley. The region is the ultimate golf holiday destination that doesn’t just offer great courses but also a world-class tourism scene with hundreds of international restaurants and the best nightlife in Thailand outside of Bangkok.

There is more to Pattaya City than meets the eye. It’s one of those special tourism regions that merges both immense nightlife with wholesome family attractions. The city can get a bad rep for its hedonistic pleasures but is more eclectic than you think.
