Many of Thailand’s dining events and promotions inevitably coincide with holidays and other celebrations. For example, romantic restaurants in Bangkok are known to hold special menus and deals for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, while other holidays such as Christmas and New Year are marked with a series of culinary extravaganzas.
International chef visits
In recent years, Bangkok’s restaurants have been getting worldwide attention, making Best Restaurants in Asia lists and welcoming international chefs. The cuisine here goes way beyond just pad Thai and a good green curry, with some of the finest French, Italian, American, Indian and Chinese restaurants in Southeast Asia. Top tables for your next visit to look out for are Le Normandy (French), Gaggan (Indian), L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon (French), Nahm (Thai), Eat Me (International), Bo.Lan (Thai) and Water Library (International).
For something extra special, why not take advantage of Bangkok’s many rooftop bars – some of which boast views across the city from over 50 floors up. Select venues hold special dining events, with names to look out for including Vertigo, Sky Bar (Sirocco Restaurant), Red Sky, Cloud 47 and Vanilla Sky.
Back down to Earth, more memorable dining experiences in the capital can be found on the water. The mighty Chao Phraya River which runs through the heart of the city stages river cruises every night. Most run from major hotels on the river such as the Shangri-La, taking approximately 2-3 hours with a luxurious dinner buffet included. Have your cameras ready for this one, as the boat passes many of Bangkok’s most famous landmarks such as Wat Arun and the Grand Palace.
Other dining and culinary events to watch out for in Thailand are pop-up food markets, farmer’s markets, fruit and vegetable festivals, beer festivals wine tasting events and cocktail pairing dinners.
