But now we know it’s a nailed-on certainty, we are all looking forward to seeing how it plays out. When the Coming to America 2 Trailer was released a couple of days, the internet nearly broke. If you are an 80’s child such as myself, Eddie Murphy movies were a standard cornerstone of your childhood. The original Coming to America movie was first launched back in 1988 and became one of the most popular family movies of the 1980s.
In recent years, Eddie Murphy had been quite the recluse and by most opinions had already retired from film. Murphy was also one of the most successful stand-up comedians of the decade with massive fan appeal. His Raw and Delirious stand-up comedy specials are still legendary today. So it’s great to see Eddie Murphy back at the helm where he belongs.

The Coming to America 2 trailer confirmed that not only is Murphy back, this time as King Akeem, but so is his sidekick played by Arsenio Hall. The plot of the movie is King Akeem has to go back to America to find his long-lost son so he can claim his rightful spot of a king. That’s what the info in the trailer implies.
Actor Jermaine Fowler will be playing the role of King Akeem’s son. Other actors in the movies include Leslie Jones, Wesley Snipes, Kiki Layne, and Teyana Taylor. That is quite a cast there, which bodes well for the movie.
The original Coming to America movie with Eddie Murphy was one of the biggest films of the 1980s and a follow up is returning to the movie screens in March 2021.
Coming to America 2 Release Date?
Now we have seen the official Coming to America 2 trailer, it’s time to get excited about the release date. When will we get a chance to watch the movie with Eddie Murphy and so many other actors in it? At this moment, the release date is penned in for 5 March 2021. So not long to wait. However, Hollywood has been postponing the release dates of several movies in the early part of the year due to the lack of audiences at cinemas, so we will see.
We are excited that Eddie Murphy is back after such a long layoff. Only people of my age will remember how much of a world-famous celebrity Murphy was back in the 1980s and early 1990s.
