Breakdancing Becomes Official Sport for Paris 2024 Olympics

Breakdancing is being added as an official sport for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the news on Monday, which has become an interesting topic.

Do you think breakdancing should be an Olympic sport? Synchronized swimming and other pastimes that are not essentially sports are part of the Olympics, so why not breakdancing? It takes great skill and is fun to watch, usually in a back-street rap club. I think it’s an interesting idea.

Breakdancing at Paris 2024 Olympics

When hip-hop was first formed in the South Bronx in the late-1970s and early-1980s, nobody knew it would take over the world. When the Rocksteady Crew became the darlings of the breakdancing community on the harsh New York streets, who would’ve thought you could eventually get a gold medal. A gold medal, not a golf medallion on a chain. But the same concept.

From plastic lining on the floor of the ghetto to the Paris 2024 Olympics. The journey is unprecedented. The IOC stated earlier this week that Breakdancing will be called ‘Breaking’. It’s an exciting time for breakdance artists who have paid their dues over the years. The IOC also reported that some other new sports will be appearing at the 2024 Olympics. You can expect to see skateboarding and sport climbing. Surfing will also be making its long-awaited debut in Paris. Well, not Paris, because it’s not on the coastline. But you know what I mean.

Paris 2024 Olympics Breakdancing Reaction

There have been mixed reviews on Breakdancing debuting at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The reactions have ranged from excitements and happiness to disgust and confusion. But as stated above, if Synchronized Swimming can be an Olympic sport, all bets are off the table and no-one should be surprised or disgusted. It’s a great thing that ‘street’ sports are finally getting noticed.

The IOC also stated that this will be the first Olympics in history to have 100% gender equality for its athlete quota. There will be 50% of women and men taking part in the games for the first time. Which is the fair thing to do.
