The American soul singer Aretha Franklin died on Thursday at the age of 76 in her home in the American city of Detroit.
That’s what her manager announced on Thursday. The ‘Queen of Soul’ suffered from cancer since 2010.
Her biggest hits include Respect, I Say a Little Prayer, Chain of Fools, Think and I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me).
In the ranking of best singers of all time from the American magazine Rolling Stone, Aretha is in the first place. “Aretha is a gift from God”, according to the music magazine in 2010. “She is the reason why women want to sing.”
In 2015, Franklin managed to stir up the then American President Barack Obama with her rendition of (You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman, which she sang during the annual Kennedy Center Honors Gala in Washington D.C.
The pastor’s daughter from Memphis won eighteen Grammies during her impressive career. She was the first woman to get a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
