The former player of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Seville and the Spanish national team died in a traffic accident. He was 35 years old.
“Sad news about my former teammate José Antonio Reyes. A great football player and an even more violent person. My sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace, my friend,” writes Robin van Persie, who played with Reyes at Arsenal, on Twitter.

Jose Antonio Reyes Leaves The World Behind
“Rest in peace, brother”, tweets Hedwiges Maduro. In his tweet, you can see a photo of him and Reyes. The photo shows their joint time at Sevilla, the club where the Spaniard grew up and made his debut.
Sergio Ramos, a teammate of Reyes at Sevilla and Real Madrid, is also shocked. “I am devastated and have no words for it — much strength to the family. We will always remember you, friend! Rest in peace.”
Arsenal coach Unai Emery, who also met Reyes at Sevilla: “I am very sad and speechless after hearing this tragic news. I will never forget your magic and your smile, José. Never. It was an honour to know you A big hug and all the strength of the world for your family, your friends and the clubs. ”
Reyes, who played for the small Spanish club Extremadura since the beginning of 2019. Reyes won the Europa League three times in a row with Sevilla. He also won that prize twice with Atlético. The Spaniard became champion with Arsenal, Real and Benfica.

FC Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic is also shocked by the death of Reyes. “God only knows why he took you away from this world. You will be in my heart for the rest of my life. I will be in pain. Thank you for the wonderful memories. Your blond brother loves you”, writes about his former Seville teammate.
According to Javier Tebas, the boss of the Spanish league, Reyes was one of the faces of Spanish football. “He is part of the ninety-year history of the competition and has played for different clubs. Rest in peace.”

Clubs from all over the world also let Twitter know how to mourn Reyes’ death. UEFA announced that a minute of silence would be held on Saturday evening prior to the Champions League final between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
